Meet the presenters
Dr Cahit Guven, Xero
Dr. Cahit Guven is the Global Econometrician for Small Business Insights at Xero, with a PhD in Economics from the University of Houston. He employs advanced econometric methods to generate real-time metrics from firm-level accounting data to measure economic and labour market activity. His research in labor economics has appeared in leading academic journals, including the FT50 Journal of Business Venturing, and has been featured in major media outlets such as the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Guven's work plays a crucial role in enhancing the understanding of small businesses and labor market dynamics.
Dr Matthew Olckers, e61 Institute
Dr. Mattew Olckers is an applied microeconomist specialising in social networks, development economics, and household finance. His research uses a broad range of methods, including field experiments, machine learning, mechanism design, and qualitative analysis. Before joining Macquarie University and the e61 Institute, Matthew held research fellowships at UNSW Sydney and Monash University. Matthew completed his PhD at the Paris School of Economics and his undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Town.
Bjorn Jarvis, Australian Bureau of Statistics
Bjorn Jarvis is the head of the labour statistics program at the ABS. Over the past two decades he has been a passionate advocate for the power of high-quality statistics in understanding the Australian economy and society, and in informing important decisions by businesses, households and governments. In recent years he has pursued and overseen the production of a range of new labour market statistics and insights, including jobs and wages measures from Single Touch Payroll data, the monthly release of longitudinal labour force data, the introduction of the Labour Account, statistics on a range of emerging arrangements (e.g. labour hire workers, digital platforms workers and restraint clauses), and insights into job attachment and job mobility in Australia.
