Guidelines on cross-institutional credit

In deciding whether or not to grant credit towards the BEcon and economics dual degrees for economics courses undertaken at other institutions, the Associate Dean (Academic) or their authorised delegate will be guided by the following principles:

Credit for proposed study

Student is enrolled at UQ and is seeking credit for a course proposed to be undertaken at another institution

Where an application is made for credit for an ECON course, credit will only be granted if:

1. the student cannot undertake the equivalent UQ course in the semester in which credit is being sought; and
2. the non-UQ course is of an equivalent credit point value to UQ courses;
3. the non-UQ course is of an appropriate level of academic rigour in light of:
   1. class contact hours
   2. pre-requisite and course assessment requirements
   3. the prescribed textbook
   4. if there is a comparable UQ course, the equivalency of content (at least 70%); and
   5. if there is no comparable UQ course, elective credit may be granted at a level appropriate to the economic content of the course.
4. If the student does not undertake the non-UQ course in the semester in which credit is being sought the student’s graduation date will be delayed by at least one semester.

Credit for prior study

Student is seeking credit for studies undertaken prior to enrolment at UQ

Where an application is made for credit for an ECON course, credit will only be granted if:

1. the non-UQ course is of an equivalent credit point value to UQ courses;
2. the non-UQ course is of an appropriate level of academic rigour in light of:
   1. class contact hours
   2. prerequisite and course assessment requirements
   3. the prescribed textbook
   4. if there is a comparable UQ course, the equivalency of content (at least 70%); and
   5. if there is no comparable UQ course, elective credit may be granted at a level appropriate to the economic content of the course.
