For more than 100 years the University of Queensland’s prestigious Archibald Scholarship has been awarded each year to a high-achieving economics student.
This year’s Archibald Scholar, Luke McKenzie, will graduate on 19 December 2015 with a Bachelors of Economics with first class Honours, ready to help tackle some of the biggest challenges facing Australian society next year.
Luke has secured a role with the Australian Government Treasury Department where he will work on a diverse range of complex public policy issues.
He said he was honoured to be selected as the Archibald Scholarship winner and looked forward to making a difference when he started his graduate position in 2016.
“The Archibald Scholarship provides me with great encouragement to keep striving to do relevant economics; something I hope to be able to do when I join the Treasury next year,” he said.
“It is also an honour to join the long list of successful economics graduates awarded this scholarship, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the great experiences I have had during my time at UQ.”
Previous recipients of the Archibald Scholarship include: Commissioner with the Productivity Commission Karen Chester, Chair of Allen Consulting Dr Vince Fitzgerald and Executive Chairman of Dixon Advisory Mr Daryl Dixon.
At this year’s UQ School of Economics Honours Celebration, Mr McKenzie was also awarded The Tactical Global Management Honours Prize.
