In late March the UQ School of Economics held it’s annual Careers in Economics Breakfast. Many students attended and listened to four highly successful and inspiring UQ Economics Alumni, all at different stages in their careers.
The keynote speaker was Dr Heather Smith PSM, Secretary of the Department of Communications and the Arts. The other speakers were Trung Tang, Investigator at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Rueben Lawrence, Founder and Principle of Lawrence Consulting and Mai Nguyen, analyst at Deloitte Access Economics. All the speakers talked about their career journeys and gave career tips and advice.
Both Heather and Reuben talked fondly of their days learning from lecturer Dr Bruce Littleboy, who is still lecturing with the UQ School of Economics.
Heather particularly reinforced the importance of having a sense of curiosity.
At the end of the breakfast, students mingled with the guest speakers and received valuable one on one time with them, learning more about where UQ economics could take them.
