Master of Advanced Economics

The Master of Advanced Economics is our most demanding masters and offers the highest-level, cutting-edge training in formal techniques of economics analysis and econometrics.  It is similar to the first year in a US PhD program.

This program is your best choice if you are seeking the most advanced coursework training possible or seeking to meet the entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

This 2-semester program consists entirely of technically challenging coursework. 

Admission

Entry to this program is competitive. You need to satisfy the Executive Dean that, based on your academic record, you are best qualified for admission. As a minimum, you must have completed a relevant Honours or postgraduate degree and achieved outstanding results with a minimum GPA of 6. 

Applications will be considered in two rounds during the year.  However, commencement in the program is only in February each year.  Application deadlines are 30th April and 30th September each year. The selection committee will review all completed applications after the deadlines - only those with complete documentation will be reviewed.

How to apply

Apply using the Online Application portal and upload supporting documents:

  • All previous academic transcripts
  • All previous degree certificates
  • Evidence of English Language Proficiency
  • Academic CV 
  • Cover letter - a brief statement explaining your motivation for applying and details of the textbooks you have used in your highest-level micro, macro and econometrics courses so far, and a list of the highest-level types of mathematics that you have studied so far.
  • GMAT/GRE score sheets if you have them, although not mandatory. 

The program code to cite in your application is 5656.
