Undergraduate and honours scholarships

Economics Undergraduate Indigenous Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide assistance to students of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background who have a keen interest in economics and a demonstrated need for financial support.

Eligibility
  • Commencing undergraduate domestic student.
  • Enrolled or intending to enrol in the Bacehlor of Economics program.
Scholarship details
  • Up to 100% tuition fee waiver.
  • Up to the duration of the program.
  • Number awarded may vary.
Scholarship focus Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Tentative datesApplications typically open in January and close in March.

Warren Braxton Bannister Bursaries in Economics

Established in 2005 and maintained by an endowment from the estate of the late Warren Braxton Bannister.

Eligibility
  • Current undergraduate domestic or international student.
  • You are enrolled in the first year of one of the following programs:
    • Bachelor of Economics
    • Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Honours)
    • Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours).
Scholarship details
  • At least $3,000 awarded.
  • 1 year duration.
  • 1 awarded per year.

EJ Fisher Scholarship

Established in 2020 as part of the Create Change Scholarship Match Scheme and in collaboration with Alumni Friends, Dr Catherine A Lawrence and Mr Geoff Lawrence the scholarship supports domestic students accepted into the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics Honours program facing financial hardship.

Eligibility
  • Current or future domestic student.
  • You are enrolled or intend to enrol full-time in the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Honours) program.
Scholarship details
  • At least $4,500 awarded but limited to the value of the annual distribution fund.
  • Up to 4 years duration.
  • 1 awarded per year.

The Matthew McLennan and Richard Howes Outstanding Honours Collaboration Scholarship

This scholarship encourages collaboration and teamwork between high-performing Honours students from the UQ Business School and School of Economics.

Eligibility
  • Current domestic or international student.
  • Enrolled in Honours program within the School of Business or School of Economics.
Scholarship details
  • $7,000 awarded for each student.
  • Awarded for Semester 2 only.
  • 2 awarded per year (1 to an Economics student, 1 to a Business student).

The Archibald Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and reward the study of Economics.

Eligibility
  • Current domestic or international student.
  • Enrolled full time in any of the following Honours programs: 
    • the Bachelor of Economics (Honours) (as a commencing student)
    • the Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours) with an economics major (and completed 48 units).
  • Have a Grade Point Average of at least 6.5 across these undergraduate economics courses: 
    • ECON2010
    • ECON2020
    • ECON2030
    • ECON2040
    • ECON2050
    • ECON2300
    • ECON3010
    • ECON3020
    • ECON3350
    • ECON3360.

FitzGerald Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and reward the study of Economics.

Eligibility
  • Current domestic or international student.
  • Enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Economics (Honours).
  • Completed the Bachelor of Economics from UQ with a major in Economics and Public POlicy or Quantative Analysis.
  • Have obtained a GPA of at least 6.25 in the Specific Courses in the Bachelor of Economics:

    • ECON2300

The Tomas Riha Scholarship

Established through a gift from the Riha family in 2022 under the Queensland Commitment matching scheme. The Scholarship is in memory of Associate Professor Tomas Riha, to honour his work and achievements.

Eligibility
  • Current udnergraduate domestic student.
  • Enrolled in the Bachelor of Economics or a dual program that includes the Bachelor of Economics.
Scholarship details
  • At leasr $4,500 awarded each year that it is held.
  • Minimum completion time of the program the student is enroleld in.
  • Up to 1 scholarship may be awarded each year as tenure becomes vacant.

Summer and Winter Research Scholarships

The Summer and Winter Research Programs offer scholarships to students wishing to undertake a research internship over the summer and winter vacation periods.

Research internships provide students with the opportunity to work with a researcher in a formal research environment so that they may experience the research process and discover what research is being undertaken in their field of interest at UQ.
