About Forward unto the uncharted realm of psyche: In search of a map of mind

Presenter: Brendan Markey-Towler

About the presentation

Since Charcot and Freud, the dawn of a new era of psychological understanding has been just beyond the horizon. But the psyche seems to cause even the horizon to recede from us by revealing ever more complexity, intricacy and individuality of psychological phenomena.

Come along to hear Brendan Markey-Towler, current School of Economics UQ PhD student, propose a mathematical model of the psychological process which is integrated, holistic and systematic. Integrated, because this one model can explain and predict a huge range of psycho-behavioural phenomena within the rubric of one model. Holistic, because psycho-behavioural phenomena do not remain disconnected and isolated but rather exist within and in relation to the psychological process as a whole. Systematic, because we proceed logicomathematically from premise to conclusion in our journey through the realm of psyche. The model therefore offers us the hope of a general theory of psychology, with major implications for our understanding of economic behaviour.
