39 outstanding and hard-working domestic and international economics students were recently honoured at the annual UQ School of Economics Scholarships and Prizes Ceremony cocktail reception.

In front of more than 60 proud family and friends, the School awarded 30 Scholarships, seven economics prizes and three bursaries to top performing economics students from both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Ms Andrea Staines, UQ Economics Alumna and Non-Executive Director, was the guest speaker at the ceremony.

Ms Staines delivered an inspirational and engaging presentation to the students and their guests about the value of completing an economics degree at UQ and the importance of financial security and self-care throughout their careers.

Ms Anh Nguyen, Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Scholarship and Economics Society of Australia (QLD) prize winner, was selected to speak on behalf of all the award winners to close the ceremony, and took the opportunity to express her gratitude towards the UQ School of Economics and the industry sponsors.

“Had it not been for their continued support, the journey of many of us here at UQ today would not have been possible.” Ms Nguyen said.

“Your recognition has given us extra motivation to strive to do well and succeed.”

Professor KK Tang, Acting Head of School of Economics was in attendance to congratulate each of the prize winners, and wish them all the best of luck in their studies and throughout their careers.
