Zy Dong received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1999. He is currently Head, School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney. Previously, he held positions at universities and power transmission companies. He was Ausgrid Chair for intelligent electricity networks.

He has over 300 publications in journals and referred conference proceedings. His research interest includes smart grid, power system security assessment, power system planning and management, electricity market simulation and risk management, data mining, computational intelligence and their application in power engineering.

He has attracted competitive research grants nationally and internationally. He and has been providing consulting services mostly in power engineering areas for companies and institutions in Australia, Canada, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and USA. His consulting and research projects include smart grid, power system stability analysis, power system contingency assessment, power system protection, power system load modeling and forecasting. He is experienced with power industry transmission system planning practice.
