A $5,000 bursary each year plus a Mentoring Scheme

The School of Economics offers a three-year scholarship, for students who can demonstrate a very keen interest in economics but who have been disadvantaged during their high schooling and may not be achieving at the top OP band.  Students from low socio-economic backgrounds, of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background or who have suffered social or emotional setbacks are encouraged to apply.

Basis of Award

  • Broad academic achievement in Years 11 and 12
  • Documentation outlining the reason for special consideration.
  • A letter from your High School Principal in support of your application is required
  • Demonstrated interest in economics
  • Students will be required to provide a cover letter which outlines their interest in economics
  • Previous study of economics at school or college is not required for enrolment in the BEcon degree, nor for the scholarship.
  • Students with a strong maths/science background are encouraged to apply.
  • For successful scholarship candidates seeking to undertake the BEcon as part of a dual program, the scholarship will cover three annual payments of $5,000 from the start of the dual degree plus mentoring.

  • A letter and any supporting documentation which outlines your case for special consideration.
  • A cover letter to your application which addresses all of the following:
    • What you believe the study of Economics to be
    • Why you wish to study Economics
    • Outlining one key Economic issue facing Australia/the international community and a possible response
    • How a scholarship would assist you in your studies.
  • Your year 11 and 12 academic records
  • A letter from your High School Principal in support of your application.
