Researcher biography

Dr Jamie Cross is a Lecturer in the School of Economics. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Australian National University (ANU). In his thesis, Dr Cross used and developed state-of-the-art (Bayesian) econometric methods to explore economic and policy time-variations in small open economies. His current research aims to (1) improve our understanding of the macroeconomic effects of energy markets, and (2) develop methods for forecasting macroeconomic time series and energy prices.

Outside of academia, Dr Cross has worked as a research analyst for the economic consulting firm Economic Connections Pty Ltd. During this position, he worked on studies examining the benefits of reducing the age of Australia's light vehicle fleet, and the cost of road trauma. These projects were used by the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) in important policy discussions that lead to the establishment of a National Office for Road Safety in July 2019.
